Description
Folk Medicine: A New England almanac of natural health care from a noted Vermont country doctor
This book was first written by Dr. D.C. Jarvis in 1958 and sold nearly a half million copies. It is still in print today for a reason.
It contains fascinating revelations about the beliefs and lore of folk medicine and the ‘laws of nature’ that Vermonters had discovered and passed down from one generation to another.
Organized May 1931, the Jarvis Correspondence Study Group (limited to 50 members) was to discuss applied biochemistry and combined the works of Dr. Melvin Page’s scientific research to better understand the problems of biochemistry. That partnership birthed ‘Young Minds with Old Bodies‘ by Dr. Melvin Page (available from IFNH) which contains studies in the internal relationship of good body chemistry, good health and good teeth. With his 20-year correspondence study group’s cumulative findings, this book is that extended discussion at a greater length.
“Vermont folk medicine evolved out of a blend of Nature’s preventive and curative principles, common sense, and the hard fact that Vermont is climatically one of the most unstable areas in the world.” – Dr. D.C. Jarvis, 1958
