Description

Written in 1930, these pages were reproduced from Dr. Wiley’s book. The “Pure Food and Drug Act” was enacted in 1906. This booklet captures the amazing story of the National Food and Drugs Law intended to protect the health of the people, enacted by Dr. Harvey Wiley, who was the first head of the Bureau of Chemistry (now known as the FDA). With the list of ‘offenders’ growing – “sugar interests, canners, fruit industry, liquor rectifiers, flour millers, meat packers, and patent-medicine fraternity” – Dr. Wiley found against the adulteration of food products and what should be suitable for human consumption. Under his leadership, the Bureau was a highly respected scientific and educational institution from 1906-1912. 31 pages
